While the snowy weather may not bring solar power to mind, there has never been a better time to go solar in Massachusetts. Beyond the benefits of energy independence and a positive environmental impact, there are also meaningful financial benefits to going solar in MA. However, these financial benefits won’t be here forever! The town of Belmont offers solar rebates through Belmont Light, but access to these rebates is going away very soon.

What type of solar rebates are available in Massachusetts?

The MA Department of Energy Resources (DOER) has partnered with the Massachusetts Municipal Electric Cooperative (MMWEC) and Energy New England (ENE) to offer a rebate program for the installation of solar photovoltaic systems in certain Municipal Light Plant (MLP) service territories. This program expires at the end of June 2021. However, Belmont Light is running out of money far faster than that.

How does the Belmont solar rebate work?

The DOER and Belmont Light will offer a total solar rebate of $1.20 per watt, up to 50% of system costs, on installations of 25 kW or less. If you have a 7 kW system installed (an average sized system), that’s an $8,400 rebate!

How much money is left in the Belmont solar rebate program?

As of the end of January, there is just over $45,000 left of the initial $470,000 worth of solar rebate funds in Belmont. In order to secure funding, a homeowner needs to work with an installer like NuWatt Energy to proceed with the application. Once a contract is signed, we’ll secure your rebate right away to ensure you’re locked in.

How much money can I save going solar in Belmont?
