Get a Free QuoteLIDAR roof analysis, state-specific pricing, three panel tiers, and transparent savings projections — every detail explained.
You enter your address. The system uses LIDAR satellite data to map your roof in 3D, identifying usable area, pitch, orientation, and shading. This determines the maximum number of panels that can physically fit on your roof.
Your monthly electricity bill determines annual consumption. The calculator sizes a system to offset approximately 90% of your usage, constrained by available roof area. System size in kW = target annual kWh / (peak sun hours x 365 days).
Price per watt is determined by your state and system size using piecewise-linear interpolation between 4 anchor points (5 kW, 8 kW, 15 kW, 25 kW). Your selected panel tier applies an offset: Hyundai -$0.07/W, Silfab base, REC +$0.19/W. Total cost = system watts x adjusted price per watt, subject to a $5,000 minimum profit floor.
Three options are presented: Cash (full price, no interest), Loan (market rate, typically 6-8% APR), and Propel (ME and TX only — TPO captures 40% ITC, you finance 60% at 8.99% APR/25yr). Each option shows monthly payment and total cost.
Annual production (kW x sun hours x 365) is multiplied by your utility rate to get year-1 savings. A 25-year projection applies 2.5% annual rate escalation and 0.5% panel degradation. Payback period = system cost / annual savings (no federal ITC for cash/loan purchases).
The base price per watt uses Silfab 440W (FEOC-compliant) as the reference. Prices are interpolated linearly between anchor points. Below 5 kW and above 25 kW, the slope extrapolates or holds flat respectively.

Satellite LIDAR data may be 1-3 years old. Recent tree growth, new construction, or roof changes may not be reflected. A site visit confirms the remote analysis.
Tree canopy and nearby building shading is estimated from LIDAR point clouds. Seasonal leaf cover, recent tree removal, or new construction may not be captured.
Savings calculations use your full retail rate. In states where net metering credits are less than retail (like NH at ~85%), actual savings may be slightly lower.
The solar calculator prices solar-only systems. Adding battery storage changes the economics. Use our Battery Backup Planner for storage analysis.
Programs like SMART, ADI, and REG are mentioned but not precisely calculated in the quote. Actual incentive values depend on enrollment timing and program availability.
The calculator does not evaluate roof age or condition. Roofs over 15 years old may need replacement before or during solar installation, adding cost.
