Connecticut electricity is among the highest in the nation — Eversource at ~$0.27/kWh and UI at ~$0.28/kWh. Spring is the ideal installation season: install April-June, produce before summer heat.
No residential tax credit. But ConnectedSolutions ($225/kW), RRES 1:1 net metering, tax exemptions, and Smart-E financing (6.99-7.99% APR) still make CT one of the best solar markets in New England.
Five forces are converging right now. Waiting costs you real money.
CT Green Bank Smart-E loans offer 6.99-7.99% APR for solar — below the 8-12% from standard lenders. Up to $50,000 for solar + battery with 5-15 year terms. Note: the 0.99% rate is for heat pumps only, not solar.
Eversource has filed rate increase requests with PURA (CT's utility regulator). With rates already at $0.27/kWh, further increases make solar payback even faster — but only if you lock in a fixed solar payment before the new rates take effect.
The commercial ITC that TPO (lease/PPA) providers use to lower your payment requires projects to begin construction before July 4, 2026. After that, third-party owned solar may cost significantly more.
Summer demand response events start in June. Install solar + battery now and earn $225/kW this summer from Eversource CT. A 5 kW battery = $1,125/year in demand response revenue alone.
Connecticut's RRES program provides 1:1 retail net metering for systems up to 25 kW. Every excess kWh earns a full retail credit. Unlike many states cutting net metering, CT's program remains strong — but policy changes are always possible.
Section 25D expired December 31, 2025. Cash or loan solar buyers get $0 back from the IRS. State incentives (Smart-E, ConnectedSolutions, tax exemptions, RRES) remain — but the biggest federal benefit is gone.
The federal residential credit is dead, but Connecticut still offers strong state-level incentives — RRES net metering, ConnectedSolutions, and tax exemptions.
Below-market-rate solar financing through CT Green Bank — lower than standard home improvement loans.
Note: The 0.99% Smart-E rate is for heat pumps only. Solar rates are 6.99-7.99% APR.
Battery demand response — get paid to discharge your battery during summer peak events.
Summer events start June. Install now to earn this summer.
Connecticut protects your solar investment from extra taxes.
Your meter runs backward — excess solar sent to the grid earns full retail credits.
Start now, produce by summer. Here is the typical Connecticut timeline.
2-4 weeks
Site survey, system design, engineering review, municipal permit application, Smart-E loan application.
1-2 days
Panel mounting, inverter install, electrical connections. Most systems installed in a single day.
2-5 weeks
Utility meter upgrade, RRES net metering enrollment, permission to operate. Eversource: 2-4 weeks. UI: 3-5 weeks.
Day 1 savings
First full production month. First ConnectedSolutions summer event. Net metering credits begin accruing.
Bottom line: If you start the process in March-April, your system is producing by July — your highest-production month and your first ConnectedSolutions summer event.
