NuWatt has completed 500+ residential solar installations across Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Texas, Vermont, and New York. Our average customer saves $3,400 per year on energy costs with system sizes ranging from 6-14 kW. Below are 8 representative stories showing real system specs, before/after costs, and what the experience was actually like.
Every home is different. Every reason for going solar is different. Here is what it looked like for real NuWatt customers.
“We eliminated our oil deliveries completely. The heat pumps run on solar power and our total energy cost dropped by 80%. Best investment we have ever made on this house.”
— Sarah M., Newton MA
“We lost power for three days during an ice storm last winter. Our Powerwall kept the lights on, the fridge running, and the heat pump going. Our neighbors were at a hotel — we were watching TV.”
— James K., Portland ME
“Our electric bills were crushing us — $400+ every month in an all-electric home. NuWatt sized the system to cover everything including our EV. We went from dreading the bill to barely noticing it.”
— Maria L., Stamford CT
“I bought a Tesla Model 3 and my electric bill doubled overnight. Solar brought it back down to almost nothing. Driving on sunshine is a real thing — my fuel cost is effectively zero.”
— David R., Nashua NH
“Everyone said you cannot put solar on a Victorian in a historic district. NuWatt worked with the Historic District Commission and designed a rear-roof installation that passed review on the first submission.”
— Patricia W., Providence RI
“The NJ ADI payments alone cover our remaining electric bill. Between the production savings and the $85/MWh SREC income, the system is generating positive cash flow from year one. The math was undeniable.”
— Robert T., Princeton NJ
“After the 2021 winter storm, we swore we would never be without power again. The battery gives us 24-hour backup. When our neighbors saw their ERCOT bills spike to $500 last August, ours was $25.”
— Jennifer H., Austin TX
“Green Mountain Power net metering makes solar a no-brainer in Vermont. We bank credits all summer and use them through winter. The system paid for itself faster than any home improvement we have done.”
— Michael S., Burlington VT
These are the reasons our customers cite most often when asked why they chose us over larger national installers.
We size your system to match your actual usage — not to maximize our revenue. If 7 kW covers your needs, we do not sell you 12 kW. Oversizing wastes your money and does not improve savings.
One price. No hidden fees. No "dealer fees" buried in the financing. The price we quote is the price you pay. We publish our per-watt pricing because we have nothing to hide.
We know your utility, your net metering rules, your permit office, and your state incentives. National installers use call centers. We use people who live in your market.
Tier-1 panels (REC, Silfab, Hyundai), Enphase or SolarEdge inverters, and IronRidge racking. We do not cut corners on equipment to lower the bid.
Average 6-12 weeks from contract to PTO. We pre-order equipment, submit permits the week you sign, and push utilities for faster interconnection approval.
We handle warranty claims, answer questions, and provide remote diagnostics whenever you reach out — for the life of your installation. You are not on your own after the install crew leaves.

We calculate savings by comparing your pre-solar annual electric cost to your post-solar cost (remaining grid charges minus net metering credits). For customers who also installed heat pumps, we include eliminated fuel costs (oil, propane, gas) in the total savings figure. All projections are based on 25-year weather data for your specific location.
Payback periods range from 6-12 years depending on your state, utility rates, system size, and financing method. Customers in high-rate states (MA, CT, RI, NJ) typically see 6-8 year payback. NH and ME customers average 8-10 years. Texas customers average 9-11 years. These periods account for the expiration of the federal residential tax credit (Section 25D ended December 2025).
Yes. Battery retrofits are one of our most common requests. We install Tesla Powerwall 3, Enphase IQ Battery 5P, and Franklin aPower2 systems. A battery adds whole-home backup during outages and can optimize your self-consumption rate. The installation typically takes one day and integrates with your existing inverter.
Yes. NuWatt currently serves Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Texas, Vermont, and New York. Each state has different incentive programs, utility structures, and installation requirements. Our team specializes in navigating these differences to maximize your savings.
The physical installation takes 1-3 days depending on system size and complexity. The full timeline from signed contract to Permission to Operate (PTO) is typically 6-12 weeks, with most of the wait time being utility interconnection approval (2-8 weeks) and permitting (1-3 weeks).
