Up to $2,500 (10-ton cap)
Fuel switch from: Oil, propane, natural gas, or electric resistance
Available to homeowners replacing oil, propane, natural gas, or electric resistance heating with a qualifying cold-climate heat pump. Pre-registration with Energize CT required.
Up to $10,000 (10-ton cap)
Fuel switch from: Fossil fuel or electric resistance (as primary heat)
Higher rebate for homeowners fully replacing their primary heating system with a cold-climate heat pump designed for whole-home heating. Requires whole-home heating design and HPIN contractor.
All Energize CT heat pump rebates require installation by a Heat Pump Installer Network (HPIN) registered contractor. HPIN contractors have completed Energize CT training and are authorized to submit rebate applications. Equipment must also be on the Energize CT Qualified Product List (ENERGY STAR 6.1 Cold Climate certified since January 2024). Using a non-HPIN contractor disqualifies you from receiving any Energize CT rebate.

Energize CT offers two tiers in 2026: the Standard Air Source tier at $250 per ton (max $2,500) for homeowners switching from oil, propane, natural gas, or electric resistance heating, and the Energy Optimization tier at $1,000 per ton (max $10,000 combined) for homeowners fully replacing their primary heating system with a whole-home heat pump design.
No. The federal Section 25C energy efficiency tax credit expired on December 31, 2025, under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed July 4, 2025. There is zero federal tax credit available for residential heat pump purchases in 2026. Energize CT rebates and the Smart-E Loan are the primary incentives available today.
HPIN stands for Heat Pump Installer Network. Energize CT requires that all heat pump installations eligible for rebates be performed by an HPIN-registered contractor. This ensures quality installations by contractors who have completed Energize CT training requirements. NuWatt Energy is an HPIN-registered contractor serving all of Connecticut.
The Energy Optimization tier provides $1,000 per ton (up to $10,000 combined) versus the Standard tier at $250 per ton (max $2,500). The key difference is that Energy Optimization requires the heat pump to replace your primary heating system entirely, with a whole-home heating design. The Standard tier allows supplemental or partial replacements. Both tiers require HPIN contractors and pre-registration.
The Smart-E Loan is a low-interest financing option through the Connecticut Green Bank. It offers 0.99% APR for energy improvements including heat pumps. Loans up to $50,000 are available with terms of 5-20 years. You must be an Eversource or United Illuminating customer, use an HPIN contractor, and the project must be EnergizeCT-approved. The current 0.99% APR is available through March 31, 2026.
Equipment must be ENERGY STAR 6.1 Cold Climate certified and listed on the Energize CT Qualified Product List (QPL). Popular qualifying brands include Mitsubishi (Hyper-Heat series), Fujitsu (Halcyon XLTH), LG (Red Series), Daikin (FIT series), Carrier (Greenspeed), and Bosch (IDS 2.0). Your HPIN contractor can verify QPL status for specific models before installation.
Heat pumps must be installed by December 31, 2026 to qualify for the 2026 Energize CT program year. Both tiers require pre-registration before installation. The Smart-E Loan 0.99% APR offer expires March 31, 2026, so if you want low-interest financing, act before that deadline. We recommend scheduling installation by October 2026 to allow time for processing.
Key differences: CT Energy Optimization maxes at $10,000 combined while MA enhanced tier goes up to $16,000 with bonuses. CT requires HPIN contractors; MA requires Mass Save participating contractors. CT offers the Smart-E Loan at 0.99% APR; MA offers the 0% HEAT Loan through Mass Save. MA has a special heat pump electric rate; CT does not. Both states participate in the $450M NE Heat Pump Accelerator.
The $450 million New England Heat Pump Accelerator is a five-state collaboration (MA, CT, RI, ME, NH) launching in February 2026. It aims to streamline contractor training, standardize equipment specifications, create bulk purchasing agreements that lower costs, and establish a unified consumer education campaign. For CT homeowners, this means more qualified HPIN contractors, potentially lower equipment prices, and easier access to information about Energize CT programs.
Yes. Both the Standard Air Source tier and the Energy Optimization tier require pre-registration with Energize CT before installation begins. Your HPIN contractor typically handles this paperwork. For the Energy Optimization tier, a whole-home heating design must also be submitted as part of the pre-registration process. Never skip pre-registration as it will disqualify you from receiving the rebate.
