The Enphase IQ8 is the best residential microinverter in 2026. The IQ8HC (384W, 97.3% efficiency) pairs with 400W+ panels, while the IQ8M handles mid-range panels at lower cost. All IQ8 models include 25-year warranties, panel-level monitoring, and Burst Mode for sunlight backup without a battery. NuWatt installs the IQ8HC as our default on every project.
Microinverters convert DC to AC at each panel instead of routing high-voltage DC across your roof to a single box. Three reasons why NuWatt chooses this architecture for every install.
Each panel operates at its own maximum power point. One shaded or dirty panel doesn't drag down the rest of the array like it would with a string inverter.
String inverters send 600V+ DC across your roof. Microinverters convert to safe AC at each panel, meeting NEC 2020 rapid shutdown requirements by design.
Adding panels later is simple — just mount new panels with new microinverters and connect. No inverter replacement or resizing needed.
All four IQ8 models share the same physical footprint and 25-year warranty. The difference is output power and panel compatibility.

IQ8 microinverters are part of a complete energy management platform. Here's what works together.
The brain of your Enphase system. Communicates with every microinverter via power line communication, aggregates production data, and connects to the internet for monitoring. One per system, mounts near the main panel.
Real-time monitoring from your phone. See per-panel production, system health alerts, energy consumption breakdown, and historical data. NuWatt configures this during commissioning.
Enphase batteries integrate seamlessly with IQ8 microinverters. The IQ 5P (5 kWh) and IQ 10C (10 kWh) both use LFP chemistry with 15-year warranties. Add battery backup without changing your inverter setup.
Enables whole-home backup with Enphase batteries. Manages grid disconnect, load shedding, and enables Sunlight Backup (solar production during outages without a battery). Required for any backup functionality.
Each IQ8 clips onto the racking rail directly below its panel using the Enphase Q Cable trunk. Our crew averages 3-4 minutes per microinverter including the MC4 connection to the panel. The trunk cable runs in the rail channel — no exposed DC wiring on the roof. Torque spec for the Q Cable connection is 13.5 in-lbs; we use calibrated torque wrenches on every job.
After the physical install, commissioning through the Enphase Installer Toolkit app takes about 20 minutes. We scan each microinverter serial number, assign it to a panel position on the roof layout, and verify communication with the IQ Gateway. The system starts producing power immediately — homeowners see real-time data on their Enphase App within an hour.
Enphase introduced the IQ7 series, replacing the legacy M-series. First microinverter with integrated rapid shutdown and power line communication. Set the standard for residential microinverter installs.
The IQ8 debuted with Burst Mode and grid-forming capability — a first for microinverters. The IQ8HC became the flagship at 384W output, handling the new generation of 400W+ panels.
US-manufactured variant launched from Enphase's factory in Guadalajara, Mexico (qualifies as domestic under USMCA). Enables the domestic content ITC adder for commercial projects.
IQ 10C battery launched alongside IQ8 microinverters. Gen4 architecture with 6,000-cycle warranty and 62% less wall space per kWh. Seamless pairing with existing IQ8 systems.
All four IQ8 variants (HC, M, A, +) remain the current production models. NuWatt installs IQ8HC as our default microinverter across all residential projects.
