Atlantic City Electric territory gets 5-10% more solar production than northern NJ, plus higher battery backup value from coastal storm exposure. Here's the full TOU+battery strategy for southern NJ.

Atlantic City Electric (Exelon) serves ~560,000 customers in southern NJ with the lowest base rates of any NJ IOU (~$0.16/kWh flat). The TOU-RSG rate offers a summer on-peak of ~$0.21/kWh (10 AM-8 PM weekdays) with off-peak at ~$0.12/kWh — a ~$0.07-0.09/kWh spread. While the spread is smaller than PSEG, ACE territory compensates with ~5-10% more solar production and higher battery backup value from coastal storm exposure. A 13.5 kWh battery delivers $500-$1,100/year in combined value.
All TOU rates shown are ESTIMATED. Final rates subject to NJ BPU approval.
Atlantic City Electric is an Exelon subsidiary serving southern NJ from the Pine Barrens to the Jersey Shore.

ACE territory averages 1,200 kWh/kW/year — approximately 6% higher than the NJ statewide average of 1,130 kWh/kW/year. This translates to more ADI/SREC-II income and faster payback on your solar investment.
Coastal areas benefit from reflected light off water and sand, plus fewer tall trees and buildings.
Battery backup is especially valuable in southern NJ during Atlantic hurricane season (June-November). 2024 saw 3 named storms affect the NJ coast. Battery backup is especially critical for shore communities where power restoration can take days. We estimate backup reliability value at ~$18/kWh/year in ACE territory vs. ~$15/kWh/year statewide.
ACE has the lowest rates of any NJ IOU but the widest winter on-peak window (7 AM-11 PM). Battery strategy differs significantly by season.

ACE Winter On-Peak: The 16-Hour Challenge
ACE's winter on-peak window (7 AM-11 PM) is 16 hours — much wider than PSEG or JCP&L. No home battery can cover this entire window. The strategy shifts to prioritizing the most expensive morning and evening sub-windows, using solar midday, and accepting some grid draws during the lower-value afternoon on-peak hours.
ACE's lower rates and wide winter peak window require a different strategy than PSEG or JCP&L. The summer window is where batteries shine.
6 AM – 10 AM
Solar begins. Battery + solar power morning peak.
10 AM – 8 PM
ON-PEAK continues. Solar powers home + charges battery. Battery discharges to avoid $0.21/kWh.
8 PM – 12 AM
Off-peak begins. Grid draws at $0.12/kWh.
12 AM – 6 AM
Battery recharges from grid at $0.12/kWh.
7 AM – 10 AM
PEAK: Battery discharges for morning peak ($0.19/kWh).
10 AM – 3 PM
Solar powers home + recharges battery. Still on-peak but solar covers it.
3 PM – 11 PM
PEAK continues. Battery discharges for evening. Accept some grid draws after battery depletes.
11 PM – 7 AM
Off-peak. Battery recharges at $0.12/kWh.
Lower base rates but higher solar production and backup power value create a unique value proposition in southern NJ.
TOU Arbitrage (Summer)
$100-$300/yrCharge off-peak ($0.12/kWh), discharge on-peak ($0.21/kWh). ~$0.09/kWh summer spread.
TOU Arbitrage (Winter)
$80-$200/yr16-hour on-peak window limits arbitrage efficiency. ~$0.07/kWh winter spread.
Self-Consumption Savings
$80-$200/yrHigher solar production in southern NJ means more excess to store.
Net Metering Optimization
$30-$80/yrLower rates reduce the NM optimization value vs. PSEG territory.
Backup Power Value
$100-$240/yrHigher than statewide avg due to coastal storm exposure, hurricane season, and extended outage risk.
ADI/SREC-II (paired solar)
$820-$1,130/yrHigher than NJ avg due to ~6% more solar production in ACE territory (1,200 kWh/kW).

The ACE advantage: While ACE has the smallest TOU spread, the combination of lowest base rates, highest solar production, and highest backup power value makes the total battery proposition competitive — especially for shore communities where storm resilience is a priority.
The Section 25D residential clean energy tax credit expired December 31, 2025. ACE customers who purchase a battery with cash or a loan receive $0 in federal tax credits in 2026.
Section 25D expired Dec 31, 2025. Federal ITC = $0. You own the system and keep all ADI/SREC-II income.
The third-party owner can claim Section 48/48E ITC (30%) for projects beginning construction before July 4, 2026. Savings passed to you as lower payments.
The ADI rate is the same statewide ($85.90/MWh for EY2025-26), but ACE territory systems produce ~6% more kWh per kW installed. A 10 kW system in ACE territory produces ~12.0 MWh/year vs. ~11.3 MWh/year statewide — translating to roughly $60-$75 more in annual ADI income.
