Your payment responsibility depends on how you acquired your solar system.
You own the panels, so you pay for R&R. The cost is yours to manage, but you have full control over timing and provider selection. You can get multiple quotes and choose the best option.
Contact your leasing company first — they own the equipment. Some lease agreements cover R&R, but most require you to hire and pay for a provider. You must get written approval before any work begins. Unauthorized removal can trigger lease default penalties.
Similar to a lease — the PPA company owns the panels and must approve any work on the system. Most PPAs require you to cover R&R costs, but the provider must be approved by the PPA company. Start this conversation early to avoid delaying your roof project.
If your original installer went out of business, you still have a lease obligation with the financing company. NuWatt can coordinate directly with your lease company on your behalf, handle the approval process, and complete the R&R. We work with all major leasing companies including Sunrun, Tesla/SolarCity, and Sunnova.
