The Energize CT Heat Pump Qualified Product List (HPQPL) is the official database of heat pump systems that qualify for Connecticut's ratepayer-funded rebates. It is maintained by CLEAResult on behalf of Eversource and United Illuminating (UI), the two investor-owned utilities serving Connecticut.
Unlike some states that rely solely on the NEEP cold-climate database or ENERGY STAR listings, Energize CT maintains its own proprietary QPL. The criteria align with the ENERGY STAR Version 6.1 Cold-Climate specification, which ensures every qualifying system can deliver meaningful heat output at 5°F and below — critical for Connecticut's winters.
Two conditions must both be met for a rebate: (1) the heat pump system must be on the QPL, and (2) the installation must be performed by an HPIN-certified contractor. If either condition is missing, the rebate is $0.
Every QPL system must operate at 5°F with at least 70% of rated capacity (HCR ≥ 0.70) and COP ≥ 1.75.
Only HPIN-certified contractors can submit rebate applications. NuWatt is fully HPIN-certified in CT.
Energy Optimization tier pays $1,000/ton (max $10,000). Standard tier pays $250/ton (max $2,500).
These are the minimum efficiency ratings a heat pump must meet to appear on the Energize CT QPL. All thresholds align with ENERGY STAR 6.1 Cold-Climate.
| Equipment Type | HSPF2 | SEER2 | HCR @ 5°F | COP @ 5°F |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ductless Mini-Split | 8.5+ | 15.2+ | 0.7+ | 1.75+ |
| Ducted Mini-Split | 8.1+ | 15.2+ | 0.7+ | 1.75+ |
| Ducted Central | N/A | 15.2+ | N/A | N/A |
| High Velocity | 7+ | 12.5+ | 0.7+ | 1.5+ |

No Federal Tax Credit in 2026
The Section 25C energy efficiency tax credit expired December 31, 2025. There is no federal tax credit for heat pumps. Energize CT rebates and Smart-E Loan are Connecticut's primary incentives.
For dual-fuel installations where a heat pump works alongside an existing gas or oil furnace/boiler, Energize CT requires an approved Integrated Control (IC). The IC manages the switchover between heat pump and backup heating based on outdoor temperature or efficiency optimization. Without an approved IC, a dual-fuel setup will not qualify for Energize CT rebates.
When is an IC required? An Integrated Control is only required for dual-fuel setups (heat pump + existing fossil fuel backup). Full heat pump replacements (no backup boiler/furnace) do not require an IC.
Works with Carrier Greenspeed systems; manages heat pump + gas furnace switchover
Compatible with most brands; uses outdoor temperature for switchover
Infrared controller for ductless mini-splits; manages setpoints and scheduling
Mini-split controller with room-by-room temperature balancing
Works with Bosch IDS 2.0 ducted systems; integrates with Bosch ecosystem
Fujitsu-specific controller for managing Halcyon/Airstage multi-zone systems
Before signing any contract, verify that your quoted system is on the Energize CT QPL. Here is the step-by-step process.
Go to the official QPL at energizect.com/explore-solutions/heating-cooling/heat-pump-qualified-product-list. This is the only authoritative source.
Enter the outdoor unit model number from your contractor's quote. The model number on the QPL must match exactly — including suffixes.
Confirm the system type (ductless mini-split, ducted, central) and check that efficiency ratings (HSPF2, SEER2) meet the criteria table above.
Verify the refrigerant listed. R-32 or R-454B are recommended for future-proof performance. R-410A is being phased out.
Check the HPIN directory at energizect.com. Both the equipment AND the installer must be qualified for the rebate.

The Energize CT Heat Pump Qualified Product List (HPQPL) is the official database of heat pump systems that qualify for Energize CT rebates. It is maintained by CLEAResult on behalf of Eversource and United Illuminating. Only systems listed on the HPQPL, installed by an HPIN-certified contractor, are eligible for rebates of $250-$1,000 per ton.
Energize CT offers two rebate tiers: Standard at $250/ton (max $2,500) for any qualifying cold-climate heat pump, and Energy Optimization at $1,000/ton (max $10,000) for whole-home projects with Manual J load calculations and HES assessment. A typical 3-ton system gets $750-$3,000 depending on your tier.
No. Only heat pumps that meet the ENERGY STAR 6.1 Cold-Climate specification and are listed on the Energize CT QPL qualify. All 12 brands NuWatt installs (Mitsubishi, Daikin, Carrier, Bosch, LG, Fujitsu, Lennox, Rheem, Goodman, York, TOSOT, and KEEN) have qualifying models on the QPL. Not every model from these brands qualifies — specific model numbers must be verified.
HPIN stands for Heat Pump Installer Network. It is the Energize CT-approved network of contractors who have completed cold-climate heat pump sizing, design, and installation training. Even if your heat pump is on the QPL, you will not receive any rebate unless the installation is performed by an HPIN-certified contractor. NuWatt is HPIN-certified in Connecticut.
No. Energize CT requires that all rebate-eligible installations be performed by an HPIN-certified contractor. DIY installations do not qualify for rebates, regardless of the equipment.
Standard tier pays $250/ton (max $2,500) for any qualifying heat pump installed by an HPIN contractor. Energy Optimization pays $1,000/ton (max $10,000) but requires a Manual J load calculation, HES assessment, and the system must be designed to handle the primary heating load. The Energy Optimization tier typically requires insulation or air sealing work first.
Yes, through June 30, 2026. The Smart-E Loan through CT Green Bank offers 0.99% APR financing up to $50,000 with terms from 5 to 15 years. It can be stacked with Energize CT rebates. After 6/30/2026, the rate may change.
For the Standard tier ($250/ton), an HES assessment is not strictly required. For the Energy Optimization tier ($1,000/ton), HES assessment is required. Regardless of tier, getting an HES first is recommended because it identifies insulation needs that improve heat pump performance.
R-410A is being phased out following the EPA AIM Act mandate for an 85% reduction in high-GWP refrigerants by 2036. While some R-410A models may still appear on the QPL, the industry is rapidly shifting to R-32 and R-454B. NuWatt recommends and installs only low-GWP refrigerant systems (R-32 or R-454B) for future-proof performance and lower service costs.
For ductless mini-splits: HSPF2 of 8.5+, SEER2 of 15.2+, Heating Capacity Ratio (HCR) of 0.70+, and COP at 5 degrees F of 1.75+. For ducted systems: HSPF2 of 8.1+, SEER2 of 15.2+, HCR of 0.70+, and COP of 1.75+. These match the ENERGY STAR 6.1 Cold-Climate specification.
No. The Section 25C energy efficiency tax credit expired December 31, 2025. There is no federal tax credit for heat pumps in 2026. Energize CT rebates ($250-$1,000/ton) and the Smart-E Loan (0.99% APR) are your primary incentives in Connecticut.
Visit the official Energize CT Qualified Product List at energizect.com and search by brand name or outdoor unit model number. You can also ask your HPIN contractor to show you the QPL listing for the specific model they are quoting. NuWatt includes QPL verification in every proposal.
If your contractor is not HPIN-certified, you will receive $0 in Energize CT rebates, even if the equipment is on the QPL. Before signing any contract, verify your contractor is in the HPIN directory at energizect.com. NuWatt is a fully certified HPIN contractor.
