Key detail: The Eversource HP rate of $0.18/kWh is lower than National Grid's $0.19/kWh, and the savings are larger because Eversource's standard rate ($0.30/kWh) is also higher. Eversource customers benefit more from the heat pump rate than National Grid customers.
If you pair a home battery with your heat pump, Eversource's ConnectedSolutions program pays you to share stored energy during peak demand events. This is one of the highest demand response payments in the country.

A 13.5 kW home battery (like a Tesla Powerwall) can earn over $4,300 per year through ConnectedSolutions. Events are called 1-2 times per week during peak seasons. The battery discharges to the grid for 2-3 hours, then recharges from solar or the grid overnight. Your heat pump continues to operate normally during events.

Professional installation of your cold-climate heat pump system. 1-3 days depending on system type. All equipment uses R-32 or R-454B refrigerant (qualifying for Mass Save).
After installation, we help you contact Eversource to enroll in the heat pump electric rate ($0.18/kWh). We provide the documentation Eversource requires for verification.

Eversource administers the Mass Save heat pump rebates, which are the same statewide tiers available to all Massachusetts utilities: Whole-Home at $2,650/ton (max $8,500), Partial at $1,125/ton (max $8,500), and Basic at $250/ton (max $2,500). Additionally, Eversource offers the heat pump electric rate ($0.18/kWh Nov-Apr) and ConnectedSolutions battery incentives ($275/kW summer).
Eversource offers a discounted electricity rate of approximately $0.18/kWh for heat pump owners during heating season (November through April), compared to the standard residential rate of approximately $0.30/kWh. This rate applies to your entire household usage during those months once enrolled. Typical savings are $55-$115 per month depending on usage.
After your heat pump is installed, contact Eversource at 800-592-2000 or visit the Eversource website. You will need to provide proof of installation including your installer invoice, equipment model and serial numbers, and AHRI certificate. Eversource may schedule a verification visit. Once approved, the rate applies automatically each November through April.
ConnectedSolutions is Eversource demand response program that pays you for sharing stored battery energy during peak demand events (typically hot summer afternoons and cold winter evenings). If you pair a battery with your heat pump and solar system, you can earn $275 per kW of capacity in summer plus $50 per kW in winter. A 13.5 kW Tesla Powerwall could earn over $4,300 per year.
No. Eversource is one of the utilities that funds and administers the Mass Save program. The rebate tiers, amounts, and requirements are the same whether you are an Eversource or National Grid customer. The main Eversource-specific benefit is the heat pump electric rate, which offers a slightly larger discount than National Grid ($0.18/kWh vs $0.19/kWh).
Yes. The Eversource heat pump electric rate and solar net metering are separate programs that work together. Your solar panels generate net metering credits (especially in summer), and the heat pump rate reduces your winter electricity cost. Combined, these programs can reduce your annual energy costs to near-zero for an all-electric home.
No. The federal Section 25C energy efficiency tax credit expired on December 31, 2025, under the OBBBA legislation signed July 4, 2025. There is no federal tax credit for residential heat pump purchases in 2026. Mass Save rebates (up to $9,500 with bonuses) and the 0% HEAT Loan remain available through Eversource.
Mass Save provides up to $9,500 (rebate $8,500 + bonuses $1,000) now. The 0% HEAT Loan covers up to $25,000 of remaining costs. Ongoing savings include $1,020+/year from the heat pump electric rate and up to $4,300+/year from ConnectedSolutions if you have a battery.
NuWatt handles your Mass Save rebate application, HP electric rate enrollment, and ConnectedSolutions activation. We make sure Eversource customers get every dollar available.
