New Jersey's Charge Up NJ program offers rebates from $250 for residential to $6,000/port for fleets. Stack the $250 residential rebate with PSE&G, JCP&L, and ACE utility EV programs — off-peak/TOU rates and managed-charging incentives — for the lowest all-in charging cost.
Charge Up New Jersey is the state's flagship EV charging incentive program, administered by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJ BPU). The program provides rebates across four categories — residential, multifamily, workplace, and fleet — to accelerate EV charging infrastructure deployment across the state.
New Jersey has set aggressive EV adoption goals: 330,000 registered EVs by 2030 and 2 million by 2035. Charge Up NJ is a key pillar of this strategy, ensuring that charging infrastructure keeps pace with vehicle adoption. The program stacks with utility-specific incentives from PSE&G, JCP&L, and ACE.

Each of New Jersey's three investor-owned utilities operates its own EV infrastructure program in addition to the statewide Charge Up NJ rebates. These programs stack — you can claim both utility and state incentives for the same installation.
PSE&G's program covers make-ready electrical infrastructure (panel upgrades, conduit, trenching) for multifamily and commercial locations. PSE&G installs and owns the infrastructure, while the property owner pays for the charger itself. This can save $3,000-$8,000 in infrastructure costs per location.
PSE&G offers a TOU rate option for residential customers. Off-peak charging (typically overnight) saves approximately $0.05-$0.10/kWhcompared to on-peak rates. Combined with solar net metering, PSE&G customers can achieve near-zero EV fueling costs.
JCP&L provides incentives for Level 2 charger installations at multifamily and commercial properties. The program covers make-ready infrastructure and offers per-port incentives that stack with Charge Up NJ. JCP&L customers in central and western NJ benefit from competitive electricity rates for off-peak EV charging.
JCP&L's residential TOU rate offers lower off-peak charging costs. Smart chargers can be scheduled to charge automatically during the lowest-rate periods, saving $250-$400 per year compared to flat-rate charging.
ACE serves southern New Jersey and offers EV infrastructure support for multifamily and commercial properties. The program provides make-ready infrastructure and managed charging incentives. ACE territory includes the Jersey Shore communities where seasonal EV charging demand is growing rapidly.
ACE offers managed charging incentives for smart chargers that participate in demand response events. Off-peak EV charging rates provide savings of $0.05-$0.08/kWh compared to on-peak, translating to $200-$350 per year for typical EV drivers.
The residential Section 30C Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit — 30% of EV charger equipment and installation costs, up to $1,000 for a home — expired June 30, 2026 and is no longer available to homeowners. Section 25D (solar ITC) and Section 25C (heat pump) had already expired December 31, 2025. NJ homeowners today should rely on the Charge Up NJ residential rebate and NJ utility EV programs.
