Hudson, New Hampshire
This Hudson homeowner wanted more than just lower electricity bills. With Eversource rates averaging $0.27/kWh, the economics of solar were compelling — but the real driver was energy independence and backup power. After experiencing grid outages, having reliable backup became a priority.
In New Hampshire, solar homeowners can benefit from programs like NEM 2.0 (~85% retail credit). Property tax exempt (RSA 72:62, ~66% of towns).
Important: The federal residential solar tax credit (Section 25D) expired on December 31, 2025. All savings calculations for this project reflect $0 federal tax credit for homeowner-purchased systems.
We designed a 8.8 kW system using 22 Q.CELLS Q.PEAK DUO ML-G11+ panels (400W each). Q.CELLS Q.PEAK DUO panels feature half-cut cell technology with excellent anti-degradation performance. Made by Hanwha, they carry a 25-year product warranty and are widely recognized for consistent real-world output.
The Enphase IQ8+ microinverters convert DC to AC at each individual panel, maximizing production even when some panels are shaded. Enphase’s panel-level monitoring lets the homeowner track performance of every single panel through the Enphase app. The IQ8 series also supports Sunlight Backup — limited daytime power during grid outages even without a battery.
The Enphase Encharge-10 battery provides 10.08 kWh of usable storage with 12 embedded microinverters for reliable DC-to-AC conversion. It supports whole-home or essential-load backup depending on the electrical panel configuration.
Equipment Reviews
New Hampshire NEM 2.0 credits solar production at roughly 85% of the retail rate (100% supply + 100% transmission + 25% distribution). Credits are locked through 2041.
Federal Tax Credit Status: The residential solar tax credit (Section 25D) expired December 31, 2025. Homeowner-purchased systems receive $0 federal tax credit. All savings estimates above are calculated without any federal credit. Third-party owned systems (leases/PPAs) may still benefit from the commercial ITC (Section 48/48E) claimed by the financing company.
“Battery backup was essential for us after the ice storms. NuWatt installed our solar and Enphase battery in under two weeks. The Eversource net metering credits have been great.”
