Eversource CT and United Illuminating run ConnectedSolutions at $225/kW summer + $25/kW winter. Combined with CT's $7,500 ESS upfront rebate, Connecticut batteries can pay for themselves faster than any other state in our service area. A 5 kW battery earns $1,125 summer + $125 winter = $1,250/year ongoing, on top of the one-time $7,500 rebate. The calculator below models your specific battery with current CT program rates.
Program details
Eversource CT and United Illuminating run ConnectedSolutions at $225/kW/year for summer events plus $25/kW for winter. Combined with the CT Energy Storage rebate (up to $7,500 upfront), batteries are among the best financial products in the state.
Connecticut's ConnectedSolutions operates through both Eversource CT and United Illuminating (UI). Events are called during summer peak demand (June-September, typically 1-6 PM weekdays) and a smaller winter season. Eversource CT and UI dispatch independently — your battery responds to whichever utility serves your address. Connecticut uniquely requires ESS rebate recipients to enroll in ConnectedSolutions, creating an explicit rebate + VPP stack that the state designed intentionally. Payment is annual, processed by your utility in Q4.
Real enrollment example
Dan and Lisa Chen in Glastonbury installed a Franklin aPower 2 in January 2025. NuWatt filed their ESS rebate application within 48 hours of the signed contract, locking in a $7,500 rebate before the tranche closed. The rebate check arrived in early March — before the battery even reached its first ConnectedSolutions summer season. Eversource CT activated their enrollment in late May. Their Franklin participated in 42 summer events and 8 winter dispatches. First-year total: $7,500 ESS rebate + $1,250 ConnectedSolutions payment + $4,200 federal ITC = $12,950 back on a $14,800 install. Net out-of-pocket after year one: $1,850.
On an August Thursday at 1:10 PM, Eversource CT signals a dispatch as temperatures push 91°F in the Connecticut River valley. The Chens' Franklin aPower 2 begins exporting 7.6 kW within three minutes — no action required from the homeowners. Their pool pump keeps running, the dehumidifier in the basement cycles normally, and the smart thermostat holds at 74°F. The event wraps at 5:30 PM after four hours and twenty minutes. The Franklin recharges overnight on Eversource CT's off-peak rate, pulling about 25 kWh back into the cells by sunrise.
Connecticut VPP events peak from 1-6 PM, overlapping heavily with afternoon solar output. A 10 kW array on a south-facing Glastonbury roof produces 6-8 kWh during the dispatch window, feeding the battery a partial recharge even mid-event on lighter dispatch days. Over a season, solar recharging displaces $55-80 in grid electricity. But the bigger CT-specific impact is the ESS rebate interaction: the ESS program requires ConnectedSolutions enrollment, so solar-paired installs that qualify for both programs unlock the full $7,500 + $1,250/year stack. Without solar, the ESS rebate still applies, but the system economics are $400-600/year weaker due to lost self-consumption value.

Learn about enrollmentMethodology
VPP revenue estimates use published program rates from utility tariff filings and ConnectedSolutions program reports as of 2026. Actual payment depends on the number of events called, your battery’s performance during events, and ongoing enrollment. Rates change quarterly — re-run this calculator before making financial decisions. This is informational, not a guarantee of revenue.
NuWatt installs VPP-eligible batteries across all 9 service states. We handle the ConnectedSolutions / BYOD enrollment paperwork as part of the install.
Start my free battery quoteSummer: $225/kW, winter: $25/kW. A 5 kW battery earns $1,125 summer + $125 winter = $1,250/year (cap: $1,250). The key difference from MA: CT also offers the ESS upfront rebate ($7,500), so your total first-year value is $7,500 + $1,250 + federal ITC ($3,800-4,500) = $12,550-13,250. On a $14,000 installed battery, Connecticut homeowners can recover 90%+ of the cost in year one.
The ESS program pays up to $7,500 upfront for residential battery installations. It is explicitly designed to stack with ConnectedSolutions — in fact, ESS enrollment requires ConnectedSolutions participation as a condition. You get the lump sum rebate at installation AND the ongoing $1,125-1,250/year VPP revenue. This dual-incentive structure makes CT the fastest payback state for batteries when both programs have available funding.
Both pay the same ConnectedSolutions rate ($225/kW summer + $25/kW winter). United Illuminating covers the Bridgeport-New Haven-Stratford corridor; Eversource CT covers the rest. UI tends to call slightly more events during summer due to higher local demand density, but payment is based on enrolled capacity, not event count. Both utilities process enrollment through Energize CT. The ESS rebate amount is the same regardless of utility.
The ESS program has limited funding that is allocated in tranches. When a tranche is exhausted, new applications are waitlisted until the next allocation. As of April 2026, funding is available but enrolling quickly is important. NuWatt submits ESS applications within 48 hours of signed contract to secure your position. If funding runs out before your application is processed, you still get ConnectedSolutions revenue — you just miss the $7,500 upfront payment.
Yes. With the Smart-E Loan (0% or low-interest through the Connecticut Green Bank), monthly payments on a $14,000 battery run ~$140-160/month. ConnectedSolutions pays ~$104/month ($1,250/year), and TOU arbitrage adds ~$65/month ($780/year). Combined: $169/month in revenue vs $140-160/month in payments = positive cash flow from month one. The ESS rebate and ITC further reduce the financed principal, making the numbers even stronger.
ConnectedSolutions enrollment is tied to the battery at a specific address. If you sell your home and the battery stays, the new owner can re-enroll. If you take the battery (uncommon), you need to re-enroll at the new address. The ESS rebate has a 10-year clawback provision if the battery is removed within 10 years of installation — this is disclosed at sign-up and rarely triggered because batteries add home value.
