25-year savings after system price and selected budgets
$28,800
Includes $5,400 from years 21–25 after selected budgets, using the separate post-RRES assumptions below.
Cash purchase, before incentives. Financing, roof work and site-specific utility upgrades are excluded. Equipment replacement is included only through your selected budget. Results depend on your roof, usage and utility plan.
NuWatt’s utility database rate is 28.71¢/kWh all-in at 600 kWh/month, effective 2026-09-01, last verified 2026-10-02. The model separates $13.02/month from 26.540¢/kWh variable charges. This is the stored rate snapshot, not a claim of a new tariff verification.
Monthly net excess earns the variable retail rate. Credits carry forward and can pay customer, supply and delivery charges. The 2026 Solar Production Charge is 4.02¢ per kWh of all solar production and stays payable. No REC or income-based adder is included. RRES applies for 20 years. Later years use the separate post-program assumptions shown in the calculator; unused RRES credits have no assumed cash value at the transition.
For qualifying new 2026 RRES Netting projects on UI Standard Service. Excludes buy-all, competitive supply and income adders. UI must approve system sizing and interconnection.
Selected equipment reserve: $0 in year 25. This is your planning allowance, not a replacement quote or warranty promise.
RRES rules apply for years 1–20. Years 21–30 use grid imports after direct solar use, no continued monthly netting, no RRES production charge, and your selected export-value assumption. Unused RRES credits have no assumed value at the transition. Future utility rules may differ.
The simulation starts in January with an empty credit bank and evenly distributed monthly usage. The selected price increase applies to variable import charges after year one; export compensation and production charges stay flat. Rates are dated inputs, not a forecast or a promise of unchanged program rules. Credits remaining at the end have no assumed cash value. Optional fees and taxes not listed above are excluded.
Production uses an NLR PVWatts v8 New Haven reference roof: south-facing, 30° tilt, 14% system losses and typical weather, with 0.4% annual degradation. It does not assess your property’s shade or roof.
The default 22 × 440 W panels round the 9.54 kW median in Berkeley Lab’s 2025 single-family detached sample (13,220 CT systems) to whole panels. Default usage of 13,000 kWh is an editable sizing scenario, rounded up to cover reference production with a 12,000 kWh minimum. It is not a state-average bill.
Cash pricing uses NuWatt’s existing Hyundai 440 W pricing engine. The $150/year maintenance budget is editable. No tax credit, grant, REC income or battery incentive is assumed.

Our 9.68 kW cash-purchase example on United Illuminating Rate R · 2026 RRES Netting estimates $28,800 in net savings over 25 years, after the $28,100 system price and $150/year maintenance allowance. Estimated cash payback is 10.7 years. The example uses a rate snapshot last verified 2026-10-02, 13,000 kWh annual use, a south-facing New Haven reference roof, 0.4% annual production decline and no electricity-price increase. The first 20 years use RRES rules and its solar-production charge. Later years assume 40% direct solar use, zero export compensation, no RRES production charge and no continued monthly netting. These later-year assumptions are editable scenarios, not future tariff promises. These are modeled results, not customer averages or a promise that tariffs will stay unchanged.
