Mitsubishi Electric is the dominant heat pump brand in Connecticut and all of New England. With 198 models on the Energize CT Qualified Product List — the most of any manufacturer — and the largest Diamond Dealer installer network in the state, Mitsubishi is the default recommendation from Efficiency Connecticut program administrators and HVAC contractors alike.
The Hyper-Heat technology is what sets Mitsubishi apart in CT's climate. Using flash injection to maintain heating capacity at extreme low temperatures, the Hyper-Heat line delivers 100% of rated heating capacity down to -13°F and continues operating (at reduced capacity) to -18°F. In Connecticut, where the coldest nights rarely sustain below -10°F, this means the Mitsubishi handles virtually every heating hour of the year.
With the federal Section 25C tax credit expired as of December 31, 2025, CT's state-level Energize CT rebates ($250–$1,000/ton) and the Smart-E Loan at 0.99% APR (through March 31, 2026) are the primary financial incentives. All 198 Mitsubishi models on the QPL qualify for both programs, and installation must be performed by an HPIN-registered contractor.
Smart-E 0.99% APR Deadline: March 31, 2026
The Smart-E Loan heat pump rate of 0.99% APR expires March 31, 2026. After that date, rates return to standard levels (4.49%+). If financing your Mitsubishi installation, apply before the deadline.

Connecticut's housing stock ranges from 1740s colonial farmhouses to 1960s split-levels to modern construction. Mitsubishi has a solution for each:
MSZ-FH multi-zone (3–5 heads)
No ductwork needed. Zone-by-zone control handles uneven heating in multi-story homes. Whisper-quiet for period homes with thin walls.
MSZ-FH single or 2-zone
Simple 1–2 zone setup handles compact floor plans. Single-zone can heat an entire open-concept Cape Cod effectively.
SVZ air handler + MXZ outdoor
Uses existing ductwork for whole-home heating. SVZ replaces furnace in air handler cabinet. Hybrid option pairs with existing gas furnace.
Full Mitsubishi multi-zone system
Design the system from scratch for maximum efficiency. MLZ ceiling cassettes for open areas, MSZ-FH for bedrooms. No ductwork needed.
$250/ton (max $2,500)
For supplemental heating installations. Must be on Energize CT QPL and installed by HPIN contractor. Most single-zone and 2-zone installations qualify.
$1,000/ton (max $10,000)
For whole-home primary heating. Requires whole-home heating design showing the heat pump system serves as the primary heat source. Multi-zone installations of 3+ heads typically qualify.
All 198 Mitsubishi Energize CT qualified models are eligible for the Smart-E Loan at 0.99% APR for heat pump projects. Maximum loan: $40,000. Terms: 5\u201320 years. Must be installed by HPIN contractor. After March 31, 2026, rates return to standard levels (4.49%+).
A single-zone Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat (MSZ-FH) costs $4,500–$7,500 installed in CT. Multi-zone systems (MXZ with 2–5 indoor heads) run $9,000–$18,000. After Energize CT rebates ($250–$1,000/ton), net costs are typically $4,000–$15,500. Smart-E Loan financing at 0.99% APR is available through March 31, 2026.
Mitsubishi has 198 models on the Energize CT Qualified Product List as of March 2026 — the most of any single brand. This includes MSZ-FH wall-mounted, MSZ-EF designer, MLZ ceiling cassette, SEZ concealed duct, and SVZ ducted air handler indoor units paired with various MUZ and MXZ outdoor units.
For single-zone heating, the MSZ-FH (Hyper-Heat wall-mounted) is the top choice — HSPF2 12.5, -13°F rated, whisper-quiet 19 dB. For whole-home multi-zone, the MXZ outdoor unit paired with multiple indoor heads (MSZ-FH for bedrooms, MLZ for open areas, SVZ for ducted). For a single concealed option, the SEZ ceiling-concealed unit offers a clean aesthetic.
Yes. The Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat maintains rated heating capacity down to -13°F and continues operating (at reduced capacity) down to -18°F. In CT, where temperatures rarely drop below -10°F for sustained periods, the Hyper-Heat handles virtually all winter heating hours. The system uses flash injection technology to maintain performance in extreme cold.
Most Mitsubishi mini-split models sold in CT use R-32 refrigerant, which has a lower Global Warming Potential (GWP of 675) compared to the older R-410A (GWP of 2,088). R-32 is also slightly more energy efficient. Some older models still use R-410A. The transition to R-32 is part of industry-wide refrigerant regulations taking effect through 2025–2026.
Mitsubishi indoor units are the quietest in the industry at 19 dB on the lowest fan setting — that is quieter than a whisper (20 dB) and comparable to rustling leaves. Even on high fan speed, noise is typically 38–44 dB. Outdoor units run 48–58 dB depending on the model and load. This makes Mitsubishi ideal for bedrooms and CT homes with close neighbors.
Mitsubishi offers a 12-year compressor warranty and 7-year parts warranty when installed by a Diamond Dealer contractor. This is the longest compressor warranty in the industry. If installed by a non-Diamond contractor, the warranty drops to 7 years compressor and 5 years parts. Always use a Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer for maximum coverage.
Mitsubishi has the densest Diamond Dealer network in CT of any heat pump brand. You can find dealers at MitsubishiComfort.com/find-a-contractor or contact NuWatt Energy directly — our technicians are Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer certified.
