Our installer-grounded read on the York YZV, computed from how its specs compare against the rest of the equipment NuWatt installs.
The York YZV sits in the premium tier of the heat pumps NuWatt installs — built for homeowners who prioritize comfort, quiet operation, and long-term reliability over upfront cost. Its SEER2 of 19 is roughly in line with the median (19) of the products NuWatt installs. Rated to operate down to -10°F, it qualifies as a true cold-climate unit — appropriate as a primary heat source in any of NuWatt's nine service states without backup heat in most winters.
NuWatt does not have material reservations about this heat pump on the spec sheet. The bigger decisions are usually about home fit: ductless versus ducted, single-zone versus multi-zone, and whether your electrical panel has the capacity to add the unit without an upgrade.

Check My Eligibility“The York YZV uses the same compressor platform as Johnson Controls' commercial units, so build quality is excellent. It pairs with York air handlers for best results. The outdoor unit is solidly built and heavier than some competitors — our crew uses two people for placement. Typical install: 1–2 days.”

A heat pump increases your electricity usage by 3,000–6,000 kWh per year. Offset that cost with solar panels and power your heating with free sunshine. NuWatt designs integrated solar + heat pump systems for maximum savings.

The York YZV costs between $5,500 and $13,000 fully installed by NuWatt Energy. The final price depends on your home’s size, the tonnage you need, and installation complexity. Note that the federal 25C heat pump tax credit expired at the end of 2025, so there is no federal credit available in 2026. However, state rebates and utility incentives may still apply.
The York YZV is available in 3 sizes from 2 to 5 ton. A general guideline is 1 ton per 500–600 square feet, but proper sizing depends on your home’s insulation, climate zone, and layout. NuWatt performs a Manual J load calculation during your free consultation to determine the exact size.
The York YZV operates down to -10°F, which covers many areas of southern New England (CT, RI, coastal MA). For northern NH, VT, or ME where temps regularly dip below 0°F, we recommend a cold-climate rated model like the Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat or Carrier Greenspeed instead.
The York YZV comes with a 10-year compressor warranty and a 5-year parts warranty. NuWatt also provides our own workmanship warranty covering installation labor. Be sure to register your product with York within 90 days of installation to activate the full warranty.
The York YZV has an HSPF2 of 11.2 (heating) and SEER2 of 19 (cooling). For context, the minimum federal standard is 7.5 HSPF2 and 14.3 SEER2, so this unit is 49% more efficient for heating and 33% more efficient for cooling than the baseline. Higher efficiency means lower monthly energy bills.
The outdoor unit operates at 53 dB, which is similar to a quiet conversation and well below typical neighborhood noise. For comparison, the quietest unit in our lineup is 49 dB (Fujitsu Halcyon) and the loudest is 60 dB (Goodman GSZC18).
