Oncor is a transmission and distribution utility (TDU) in the deregulated ERCOT market serving the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and surrounding areas. Oncor does not sell retail electricity or administer net metering. Solar customers must choose a Retail Electric Provider (REP) that offers a buyback plan — popular options include TXU Energy, Green Mountain Energy, and Chariot Energy. Oncor processes interconnection applications (approximately 3-4 weeks), reprograms meters to measure surplus generation, and reports surplus data to the customer's REP within 30-60 days of meter reprogramming.
