ConnectedSolutions is a demand response program run by electric utilities in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. When the grid is stressed during summer peak demand (typically hot weekday afternoons), your battery discharges stored energy to reduce grid strain. You get paid per kW of capacity you contribute, earning $1,000–$1,500 over the summer season.

No. You set a minimum reserve level (typically 20–30%) that the program cannot go below. This means you always have backup power for emergencies. Events typically last 1–3 hours, and your battery recharges from solar the next day. You also receive advance notice of events so you can prepare.

Tesla Powerwall 2 and Powerwall 3, Enphase IQ Battery 5P and 10T, SolarEdge Home Battery, and most major residential battery brands are approved. The battery must be grid-connected and enrolled through your utility. NuWatt handles the enrollment process for all customers.

Typically 30–60 events from June through September, mostly on hot weekday afternoons (typically 2–7 PM). Events last 1–3 hours. You can opt out of individual events, though frequent opt-outs may reduce your seasonal payment. Most battery owners let events run automatically.

Payment rates vary by utility and year but typically range from $200–$275 per kW of enrolled capacity per summer season. A Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5 kWh, ~5 kW discharge) earns approximately $1,000–$1,375 per summer. Two Powerwalls would earn roughly double. Payments are typically credited to your electric bill quarterly.

ConnectedSolutions is currently active in Massachusetts (National Grid, Eversource, Unitil), Rhode Island (Rhode Island Energy), and Connecticut (Eversource, United Illuminating). New Hampshire and Vermont have similar pilot programs emerging. NuWatt enrolls customers in all active programs.
