Get a Free QuoteBraintree isn't on Mass Save — it's on BELD's own Clean Comfort program. That program pays $1,250/ton (up to $7,500) for non-gas homes and, uniquely in Massachusetts, $750/ton for gas-heated homes too.
Verified June 10, 2026 against beld.com/cleancomfort. Federal 25C credit EXPIRED Dec 31, 2025.
BELD's Clean Comfort program pays $1,250 per ton (cap $7,500) for an air-source heat pump in a non-gas home (oil, propane, or electric resistance), and $750 per ton (cap $4,500) for a gas-heated home — making BELD the only Massachusetts municipal utility that rebates heat pumps in gas homes. Weatherization is rebated at 50% of cost up to $3,500. An energy audit is required first, and your BELD account must be active and in good standing for at least six months. Braintree is not on Mass Save.
Mass Save is funded by the three investor-owned utilities — Eversource, National Grid, and Unitil. Braintree is served by the Braintree Electric Light Department (BELD), a municipal light plant, so BELD customers are outside Mass Save entirely. The good news: BELD's Clean Comfort program is generous, and it does something no other MA municipal does — it rebates gas-heated homes too.
| Feature | BELD Clean Comfort | Mass Save (IOU customers) |
|---|---|---|
| Who runs it | BELD + Abode Energy Mgmt | Eversource / National Grid / Unitil |
| Whole-home ASHP rebate | $1,250/ton, cap $7,500 (non-gas) | $2,650/ton, cap $8,500 |
| Gas-heated home rebate | $750/ton, cap $4,500 (unique) | Not offered (gas-side offers only) |
| Weatherization | 50% of cost, up to $3,500 | 75–100% of cost |
| Energy audit | Required before any rebate | Required (free assessment) |
| Appliance rebates | Rich self-run stack (see below) | Limited (thermostat, etc.) |
| Account tenure gate | Active + good standing ≥6 months | No tenure requirement |
The gas-home stacking exception. Mass Save's $2,650/ton whole-home figure is the standard for IOU customers and is shown here only for comparison — Braintree homeowners cannot claim it. But because gas heating is delivered by a separate utility, a Braintree gas-heated home can use any Mass Save gas-side offer it qualifies for andstack BELD's $750/ton heat-pump rebate on top. The two are judged under separate criteria.
Your tier depends on how your home is heated today. Non-gas homes get the full $1,250/ton; gas-heated homes get $750/ton — an option no other MA municipal offers.
For homes heated by oil, propane, or electric resistance. The whole-home pathway conditions 100% of the living space; a partial install uses a Block Load (Manual J) calculation to size each zone.
Cap $7,500
BELD is the only Massachusetts municipal utility that rebates a heat pump in a gas-heated home. You keep your gas system; the heat pump runs as your efficient primary or shoulder-season heat, and you can still use any Mass Save gas-side offers you separately qualify for.
Cap $4,500
Air sealing and insulation are rebated at half their cost. A whole-home heat pump must condition 100% of the living space; partial installs are sized zone-by-zone with a Block Load (Manual J) calculation.
An energy audit is a hard precondition for every Clean Comfort heat-pump rebate. Your BELD account must also be active and in good standing for at least 6 months.

BELD self-runs the richest confirmed appliance rebate stack of any Massachusetts municipal utility. Bundle these into the same electrification project to maximize your payout. Amounts below are from the official BELD rebate form (rev. 2025).
Requires EV Charge & Save demand-response enrollment
Programmable; oil-heat or central-AC homes
EV charger note. The Level 2 EV charger rebate pays 100% of cost up to $250 and requires enrollment in BELD's EV Charge & Save demand-response program, which lets BELD smooth charging during peak hours.
Your BELD account must be active and in good standing for at least 6 months. BELD customers are not eligible for Mass Save heat-pump rebates — Clean Comfort is the program you use instead. Questions go to energyadvisor@beld.com.
An energy audit is a hard precondition for every Clean Comfort heat-pump rebate — no audit, no rebate. The audit documents your envelope, identifies weatherization opportunities, and sets up the 50%-of-cost insulation rebate. Abode Energy Management administers the heat-pump side of the program.
Air sealing and insulation are rebated at 50% of cost up to $3,500. Doing this before the heat pump goes in shrinks the load, lets us size the system smaller, and improves comfort on the coldest days.
NuWatt sizes a NEEP cold-climate system with a Manual J (Block Load for partial installs) and installs A2L-refrigerant equipment. We coordinate the 12-inch clearance and BELD inspection so your rebate paperwork is clean.
We file your Clean Comfort heat-pump rebate through Abode, and BELD pays the appliance rebates (heat-pump water heater, induction cooktop, EV charger, and more) on its own form. Add the qualifying appliances in the same project to maximize the payout.
BELD's Clean Comfort program pays $1,250 per ton (up to $7,500) for an air-source heat pump in a non-gas home — one heated by oil, propane, or electric resistance. If your home is heated by natural gas, BELD still pays $750 per ton (up to $4,500), which makes BELD the only Massachusetts municipal utility that rebates a heat pump in a gas-heated home. Weatherization is rebated at 50% of cost up to $3,500. An energy audit is required before any heat-pump rebate, and your BELD account must be active and in good standing for at least 6 months.
NuWatt schedules your required audit, sizes a NEEP cold-climate system with Manual J, and files your Clean Comfort and appliance rebates so Braintree homeowners capture every dollar.
