Home Performance Direct is NHSaves' income-eligible tier of the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program. It provides a free comprehensive energy assessment ($0 copay vs $100 for standard), up to 100% off insulation and air sealing (vs 75% for standard), additional equipment assistance, and priority scheduling. It is the most cost-effective way for qualifying NH households to improve home energy efficiency.

You qualify if your household income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). For a household of four, this is approximately $62,400 per year in 2026. You also qualify automatically if you are enrolled in a utility low-income discount rate, LIHEAP, SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, Fuel Assistance, or are referred through the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). WAP (Weatherization Assistance Program) is a federally funded program administered through New Hampshire Community Action Agencies. It provides comprehensive home weatherization including insulation, air sealing, heating system repair/replacement, and health and safety measures. WAP is separate from NHSaves but households can be referred between the programs. Income eligibility is 200% FPL or LIHEAP enrollment. Contact your local Community Action Agency or call 2-1-1.

Call NHSaves at 603-229-2727 and request Home Performance Direct specifically. Mention your income situation or any qualifying program enrollment (LIHEAP, SNAP, Medicaid, etc.). You will need to provide documentation -- typically your most recent tax return or proof of enrollment in a qualifying program. You can also call your individual utility directly.

No. The federal Section 25C energy efficiency tax credit expired December 31, 2025. It provides $0 in 2026 for all households, regardless of income. The Home Performance Direct program is a direct utility rebate, not a tax credit, and remains fully available.
