Mansfield, Connecticut
This Mansfield homeowner wanted more than just lower electricity bills. With rates from Eversource ($0.27/kWh) and United Illuminating ($0.28/kWh), the economics of solar were compelling — but the real driver was energy independence and backup power. After experiencing grid outages, having reliable backup became a priority.
In Connecticut, solar homeowners can benefit from programs like RRES and Energize CT. Sales tax exempt. Property tax exempt.
Important: The federal residential solar tax credit (Section 25D) expired on December 31, 2025. All savings calculations for this project reflect $0 federal tax credit for homeowner-purchased systems.
We designed a 11.8 kW system using 28 Canadian Solar HiKu7 CS7L-420 panels (421W each). Canadian Solar HiKu7 panels deliver strong performance at a competitive price point. Their half-cut cell technology reduces power loss from shading and improves reliability over the 25-year warranty period.
The SolarEdge SE10000H string inverter pairs with SolarEdge power optimizers at each panel for panel-level optimization. SolarEdge’s monitoring platform provides detailed production analytics, and the hybrid inverter is battery-ready for future storage additions.
The FranklinWH aPower2 is a whole-home battery system with built-in smart load management. It can manage up to 5 circuits independently, prioritizing critical loads during outages. The system includes a built-in transfer switch, simplifying installation and providing seamless backup transitions.
