ConnectedSolutions revenue estimates based on $225/kW summer + $50/kW winter dispatch rates. Actual payments depend on number and duration of events called each season. Revenue is based on battery power output (kW), not storage capacity (kWh).
The real power of the RI energy market is stacking multiple revenue streams and savings sources. Here is the complete strategy.
Every kWh your solar panels produce saves you $0.27-0.31 in electricity purchases. A typical 8 kW system produces 9,000-10,000 kWh/year.
Est. value: $2,500-$3,100/year
The Renewable Energy Growth program pays a fixed per-kWh rate for your solar generation over a set contract term. Provides predictable income.
Est. value: varies by enrollment class and term
Your battery earns $225/kW in summer + $50/kW in winter through demand response dispatch events. A 10+ kW battery earns $2,500-$2,750/year.
Est. value: $2,250-$2,750/year
Replace oil or gas heating with a heat pump powered by solar. Eliminates $2,000-$4,000/year in fossil fuel heating costs for typical RI homes.
Est. value: $2,000-$4,000/year
Includes solar + battery + heat pump savings. Heat pump cost not included in system cost above (separate installation). REG payments vary by enrollment class. Section 25D residential tax credit is $0 (expired December 31, 2025).
The REF is one of the most valuable remaining solar incentives in New England after the federal 25D credit expired.

REF Funding Can Run Out
REF funding is allocated periodically and enrollment windows can close when funding is exhausted. Check with Rhode Island Energy or your installer for current availability before counting on the rebate in your financial analysis.
Many RI homes heat with oil or natural gas at $2,000-$4,000+/year. Adding a heat pump powered by solar eliminates this cost and maximizes the revenue stack.
RI has 400+ miles of coastline. Coastal installations require specific attention to salt air, flood zones, and wind loads.
Use marine-grade aluminum or stainless steel mounting hardware. Standard galvanized steel corrodes quickly within 1 mile of shore.
Battery systems must be installed above base flood elevation in FEMA-designated zones. Ground-mount solar may require elevation in VE/AE zones.
Coastal RI has higher design wind speeds (ASCE 7). Roof mount systems need additional attachment points. Panels must be rated for exposure category D.
Solar panels are typically covered under your homeowner's policy. Coastal homes may need additional flood insurance. Battery systems add $20-$50/year to premiums.
We design complete revenue-stacking systems: solar, battery with ConnectedSolutions enrollment, REF rebate, and heat pump integration. Maximum savings, one installer.
